American Health Care Association (AHCA)
The American Health Care Association (AHCA)
is a national nonprofit federation of affiliated state health
organizations, together representing more than 11,000 members, including
nonprofit and for-profit assisted living and skilled nursing facilities
and providers of subacute care and care for the developmentally disabled.
AHCA represents the long-term care community to the government, business
leaders and the general public, endeavoring to serve as a force for change
within the industry, providing information, education and administrative
tools designed to enhance quality at every level in the long-term care
industry.
Among the resources AHCA provides are health services research and
statistics relating to long-term care, Medicare, Medicaid and staffing, as
well as quality improvement guidelines and educational programs. The
association also hosts annual meetings and maintains a calendar of other
health care industry events, plus hallmark days and months observing
specific patient groups and health issues.
Recently, a new, voluntary, two-year campaign called “Advancing Excellence
in America’s Nursing Homes” was established by a group of health care
providers, caregivers, medical and quality improvement experts, government
leaders, consumers and others, including AHCA. The purpose of the
coalition is to help create greater awareness of quality care improvement
efforts already underway and report on the progress of providers’ quality
improvement initiatives.
