American Seniors Housing Association (ASHA)
Formed in 1991, the American Seniors
Housing Association (ASHA) is the professional association of seniors
housing executives in America, providing research, federal representation
and advocacy as well as networking opportunities to its members. In
addition, ASHA offers consumers information online that explains the
various seniors housing options and identifies the issues to consider when
selecting a residence.
The American Seniors Housing Association was originally formed as a
committee of the National Multi Housing Council www.nmhc.org in 1991 and
became an independent nonprofit organization ten years later. ASHA’s
members are executives and other prominent professionals involved in
operations, development and financing across the entire spectrum of the
seniors housing industry, including both for-profits and nonprofits,
independent living and assisted living facilities, as well as continuing
care retirement communities.
At last count ASHA's membership collectively owned and/or managed
approximately 500,000 units of seniors housing at various locations in all
50 United States, with additional holdings in Canada and Europe. The
organization compiles an annual ranking of the 50 largest owners and
managers of market rate seniors housing in the United States. Its
sponsors, including a number of leading long-term care companies, lenders,
REITs, investors and others, make it possible for ASHA to host a number of
premier executive-level meetings and to conduct industry research studies
throughout the year.
