Technology Deal of the Week
There’s a large and growing market for FISH products, according to Oxford Gene Technology, a provider of innovative genetics research solutions. Last week the UK biotech announced the acquisition of Cambridge-based Cytocell Limited, a leading provider of DNA technology for the detection of gene rearrangements related to inherited genetic disease and cancer. Cytocell’s portfolio of Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH) probes complement OGT’s CytoSure cytogenetics array and next generation sequencing products. Charted Territory

Deal volume ticked up slightly in February 2014, compared with February 2013. Last month there were 61 healthcare deals announced, up 7% compared with the year earlier. The Long-Term Care sector posted the most deals, up 29% to 22 announcements, but the Services sector didn’t show any gains against the year-ago total of 35 deals. The Technology sector brought the modest total up, with 26 deals announced in last month, compared with the year-ago period. Measured against January 2014, however, which had 95, last month doesn’t look as promising, but these are still preliminary figures.
