During February 2008, six health care venture capital deals of $25
million or more each were announced, totaling $229 million-close to 60% of
the entire month's dollar total.

The five largest health care venture capital
deals announced during January 2008 include two biotechs, a biopharma, a
pharma and a medical device company.
Outpatient Dialysis Provider Starts Up With Large Venture Round
Pelikan Technologies raised the largest
venture round announced by a health care company during December, with a
$69 million Series F financing provided by Clarus Ventures, HBM
BioVentures, Global Life Science Ventures, Mannheim Holdings and Bio*One
Capital.
Percutaneous Mitral Valve Repair Developer Secures Largest Venture Round
Evalve, a developer of devices for the
percutaneous repair of cardiac valves, secured funding to support
commercialization in Europe and trials in the United States of its
MitraClip. The $60 million financing, provided by New Enterprise
Associates, Split Rock Partners, Abbott Laboratories and Emergent Medical
Ventures, was the Series D for Evalve, and the largest round announced
during November 2007.

The five largest health care venture capital
deals announced during October 2007 accounted for $202 million in total
proceeds, raised by companies in the health care services,
biopharmaceutical, biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors.

Capital Deals in September
During September 2007, 43 health care companies raised $641.3 million in
venture capital financing, with the five largest deals accounting for about
one-third of the dollar total.

Nine-Digit Venture Capital Deal
During August 2007, health care companies
raised nearly $714 million in venture capital, including the fourth health
care venture capital deal so far this year to equal or exceed one hundred
million dollars.
Health Care Services Companies Secure Significant Equity Rounds
For the month of July 2007, the five largest
health care venture capital transactions include two deals announced by
companies that provide health care services. In each of the two services
deals, as well as in one deal announced by a company with a product
essential to health care facilities, a single investor is providing the
financing.

Capital Deals In June
The five companies that announced the
largest venture capital deals during June 2007 include two developing
drugs for pain, one working on a device-based treatment for heart failure,
one contract pharmacy serving the long-term care industry and one in a
strategic alliance focused on developing cancer treatments.

Johnson & Johnson Development Corporation, Biogen Idec, Schering Plough
and Olympus Medical Systems all appear among the investors in the top five
health care venture capital deals announced during May, which feature two
medical device companies and three biopharmaceutical companies.

Largest of Top Five Health Care Venture Capital Deals In April
During April 2007, the five largest health
care venture capital deals were led by Sientra, a specialty medical device
company focused on plastic surgery and aesthetic medicine, and also
included Radius, Sangart, Ascenta and GANYMED.

The top venture capital deals announced
during March 2007 include a $175 million round for EUSA Pharma and a $110
million round for CardioNet, and both companies recently made acquisitions
