Records Set in Seniors Housing and Care M&A Market

Well, we are hard at work finalizing our numbers for our annual survey of the senior care acquisition market. The report, which will be the 19th edition and available late in March, sheds light on what happened in the 2013 skilled nursing and seniors housing acquisition markets, but also in the context of the previous several years. We all know that 2013 was an active year, with a record number of announced seniors housing and care transactions, even if the dollar value of those deals was less than half the previous record set in 2006. As you will find out in coming weeks, there were a few other records set last year. Without divulging the numbers quite yet – hey, you have to sign up for our M&A market Webcast next week for that – skilled nursing set a record in 2013 for the average price per bed, as did independent living. Talk about two very different businesses. And skilled nursing did it without a decrease in the average cap rate. So join me next week as our panel of experts dissects the 2013 market and weighs in on what they think will happen this year.
