Record-setting Senior Care M&A in Q:3 2014
All I can say is wow! We have never seen a market like this. It is even surpassing the action in 2006 and 2007 when people were worried about an acquisition and valuation bubble, and before they were worried the housing market bubble. There were several multi-billion dollar deals back then, including three that topped $5.0 billion each, but the transaction volume, in terms of number of deals, was half what it is today. We are in unchartered territory, having just closed out the first quarter ever with 80 announced transactions, at a time when 60 to 65 per quarter seemed to be a peak. That is 33% higher than both the previous quarter and the third quarter 2013. That’s not all. With a dollar volume of close to $9.0 billion in the third quarter alone, we have already reached $16 billion in seniors housing and care transactions. This means we are closing in on the record set in 2006 of over $22 billion, and will easily pass the record of 225 announced transactions last year. In fact, we may pass that 225 record by Halloween. But the ride continues.
