HCR ManorCare is a leading provider of short-term, post-acute services and long-term care. Care is provided through a nationwide network of skilled nursing and rehabilitation centers, assisted living facilities, outpatient rehabilitation clinics, and hospice and homecare agencies.
HCR ManorCare, operating primarily under the Heartland, ManorCare Health Services and Arden Court names, provides not only long-term nursing care, but also rehabilitation services and short-term, post-acute care for patients recovering from serious illness or injury; many of them house special units for Alzheimer’s patients.
ManorCare gets most of its long-term care revenue from Medicare and Medicaid. In response to falling reimbursement rates, the company has shifted its focus to seeking out patients that require more complex care (over a shorter period of time) that is reimbursed at higher levels. This shift in patient mix has resulted in the growth of its post-acute business, which cares for patients recovering from chronic illness, serious injury, or surgery.
